About Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week honors the memory of Enrique “Kiki” Camerina, a DEA who was killed in Mexico in 1985 for trying to prevent drugs from entering the U.S from Mexico. A symbol of his memory and his work to keep youth safe from drugs, a red ribbon was created and in 1988 began the history of the oldest week-long drug prevention campaign in the country.
